September is generally quite an exciting month for me every year. Not only my two daughters go back to school ( cannot believe my younger one is in the junior playground now!), but I also get the chance to be part of the jury for the Product of the Year.
This year I also had a fitness challenge ahead, my first open water swimming event. I can proudly say I completed the one mile Swim Serpentine on Saturday and will be back next year.
It’s been quite a few years now since I have been involved in Product of the Year, and it’s great to see how much innovation means to brands and customers. To be eligible for entry, the products must have been launched in the past 12 months and must have demonstrated innovation in one or more key areas ( functionality, design, packaging, or recipe).
My Role at the Product of the Year
Many of my friends and blog readers often ask what is the jury’s role in this process?
The entered products are trialled and tested by industry professionals, press and bloggers to determine the shortlist. This is the part when I share my views on products, how much innovative they are, and if I think they bring something new to the market. I also share if I like the product or if I think customers would like it. All this data is then annalised and a shortlist is created.
Then it’s all on the public. More than 10,000 consumers vote to decide the winning products, with winners announced at the awards show in January. Winners receive extensive benefits, including sales uplift and extensive press coverage.
As every year, I love being part of this process and always have my favourites. I cannot share these with you now, it’s a secret, but keeping my fingers crossed for them to make it in January at the awards.
This makes me realise I also need to sort out my outfit for the awards night as it’s always a great night out celebrating all the innovative brands with my lovely fellow judge and friend Monica Costa from London Mums Magazine. Cannot wait!
