Involve Your Kids in Decor Decisions

Involve Your Kids in Decor Decisions

When we moved into our new house more than 2.5 years ago, the first thing we knew we wanted to change was the paint in all bedrooms, rooms and hallways.

That’s probably something most people would do to make the move into a new place easier. This has also given us a chance to let our two daughters decide what they wanted to do with their bedrooms.

I loved watching the little minds wandering through the isles of paint with paper samples colour charts, and picking the shades for their personal space!

Dulux has recently come up with The Kids’ Bedrooms Summer Holiday Workbook to highlight the benefits of involving your kids in the process and suggest summer is a fab time to tackle a decoration project together.

We all know how long summer holiday can be, so get creative and use the summer holidays as a time to transform their bedroom into the room of their dreams! Something they will always remember!

Child Developmental Psychologist Dr. Sam Wass (the Secret Lives of 4, 5 and 6 year olds) has recently looked into the benefits of involving your child in the decorating process.

He found that decorating their bedroom is more important to kids than other popular summer activities such as watching their first football match, or riding a bike!

And you know what? I am not surprised. I would have loved doing the same when I was a kid!

We are still in the process of finishing touches to our house, and Olivia has recently mentioned that the yellow she went for is actually not exactly what she wants now…. that’s how quickly a mind of a nearly 5-year-old changes.

I am hoping to do her bedroom makeover with her next summer when we will be spending summer holiday in the UK, not in the Czech Republic for the first time in 10 years!

I am very grateful to DULUX for coming up with these very handy guides, step-by-step & easy-to-follow instructions, how tos and print-outs that will make it much easier.

Dulux has developed six easy to achieve bedroom looks to help parents create a fun and exciting space for their child. The bedroom themes include Space, Sport, Jungle, Circus, Storybook and Superhero.

Olivia fell in love with the Jungle theme, and that’s what we will be aiming for! Just look at it! I can see our little monkey having so much fun in there already!

Dulux’s Endurance+ range is the perfect paint for a kid’s bedroom makeover as it’s 20 times stronger than normal emulsion.

When you’re tackling sticky fingers and mucky paws it’s a great solution, allowing you to wipe away the stain and not the paint underneath, meaning your walls stay as fresh as the day you painted them!

Watch the video below to see how to create the jungle bedroom!

Not only you have all the how-tos in one place.

There is also info on health and safety, answering many questions for your kids’ bedrooms projects you might have, like “How long do you have to wait until it is safe for your child to go back into their bedroom?”

Packed full of fun activities and inspiration, the Dulux Kids’ Bedroom workbook will keep you on track for a brilliant new bedroom just in time for the start of the new school year.

Simply download from the link above, print out, and work through each page together with your child!

It’s all about encouraging kids and parents to collaborate together & have fun!
