Returning to Crete during the last May half-term holiday was just superb. We have been to this part of the world many times before. The last time it was 3 years ago, and according to both my daughters, this was one of the best holidays ever. Check out my Insta Stories!
We don’t tend to return to stay at the same places like some people like to do, and I am not saying there is anything wrong with that. On the other hand, we like to explore new places and Crete despite being a small island has so many that I am sure we will be back again.
Crete – Makry Gialos
This time we made an exception. We returned to the Grape Vines Villas in Makry Gialos we stayed at 8 years ago when Isabelle was little. The place has changed a bit but was still as amazing as I remembered. Villas surrounding a private pool, 5 minutes from some stunning beaches, and the views…
After getting our luggage we had a very smooth transfer from the Heraklion airport to our destination. We collected a car provided by the Rental Center Crete – Car hire free of charge while enjoying our holiday.
I was pleased to easily find the pickup point, and their customer service was fantastic. Hiring a car when exploring Crete is something I highly recommend, as there is so much to see!
Makry Gialos is about 2 hours drive from the Heraklion airport, and there were many windy roads. make sure you pack some travel sickness tablets ( we use the Kwells Kids) to make the drive a much more enjoyable experience.
This holiday we did lots of driving and both girls loved our day trips to the parts of Crete we have not been to before. Check out the stunning Vai Palm Beach with the largest natural palm forest in Europe (made up of Cretan Date Palm, no coconuts). This is also the beach that was featured in the popular Bounty ad years ago.
Me and both my daughters love spending time on the beautiful beaches of Crete, while daddy is more of a pool guy. One of the biggest advantages of having a holiday at the beginning of the summer season is that you do not have to fight over sunbeds as there are not that many guests around.
I loved practicing my pilates routines by the sea while the girls were exploring the sea creatures in the rocks!
The girls were sent some lovely new bikinis and sandals to review on our holiday. Don’t they look lovely? Check out my denim wedges! So stylish and super comfortable too! All items available at http://www.jdwilliams.co.uk
One week is not much, but we managed to do something different every day. The highlight of our holiday was our day cruise trip to Koufonisi Island with Cretan Daily Cruises.
The sea was calm, so no seasickness, the pirate entertainment, and the views were just magical. Who would resist staying on this stunning island? I did not want to leave!
The last night before we headed back to London, we also returned to the well-known local Cretan restaurant, the Dragon’s Cave. The food was super tasty and this place is also known for its fabulous sunset views.
We love Crete and this holiday was exactly what I needed after this winter and cold Easter. Sunshine, sea and great food is something that you can definitely expect from a holiday in this part of the world.
Have you been to Crete? Any places you would recommend for our next holiday?
