Product of the Year 2019 – Jury Day

Product of the Year 2019 – Jury Day

After a hot relaxing summer away I was excited to return to London to our normal family life.

September is also a month when the Product of the Year Jury Day takes place. I am delighted to say that I was invited again to share my opinions on the country’s top innovations this year.

My job as a judge is to vet the products nominated before they go into the research, where later over 10,000 shoppers decide the winners. This is a great privilege for me to be part of this process and love seeing new innovative products. On this day I usually choose a few favourites, and then anxiously wait for the Awards in January to see if any of them won.

This is what it looks like on the actual Jury Day. Lots of testing, trying, and networking involved. Then ticking the boxes I think best describe the products. Check me out below with my lovely friend Monica Costa from London Mums Magazine.

Product of the Year:

  • Established over 30 years ago in France
  • Currently in over 40 countries around the world and growing
  • Running in the UK for 14 years
  • Is an award for FMCG innovation including product function, design, and packaging
  • Average winners’ sales increase 10-15%
  • Average first year new product sales equal £1m; average winner sales equal £9.2m
  • 90% of winners enter again the following year

Next January will mark the 15th awards to take place in the UK, once again working in conjunction with Kantar TNS, one of the world’s leading research companies.

The awards are open to all products across a wide range of categories, launched in the UK in the past 18 months. The overall winners will be invited to celebrate together at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel on 24th January 2019.

This is a truly spectacular event and love attending every year. Check out what we were up to last time!
