Spring is undoubtedly the season I love for all the signs of life that we can see everywhere after a long winter. But that’s not all. Both my daughters are spring babies, and it was Olivia’s 6th birthday we celebrated on St Patrick’s Day.
Turning six was not just another birthday for her. She had dreamt about her birthday party for so long and carefully planned in her head. Then it was all up to mummy to make this dream come true!
As many children also both my girls love making slime, and when Olivia told me she wanted a slime birthday party, I was a bit worried. Not for long as she also suggested she wanted a party at home, and only with a few very close friends.
That made it much easier for me, and when my older daughter suggested she could lead the slime bit of the party, I stopped being worried completely.
Another of her wishes was to have a pug cake. Now, I have recently enjoyed baking with my two daughters much more and we did bake daddy’s carrot cake in January. That was a cake most people can make, nothing amazing, but I believe daddy loved the effort put into it, and it tasted great!
When I asked Olivia what exactly the pug cake should look like, she told me to get on Google and show her some images. When I realized she actually meant a cake in the shape of a pug, that looks like the real thing, I started to panic. There was no way I was able to bake a cake like that!
Luckily I had an idea which at the end saved my daughter’s birthday wish. No, I did not bake the cake, but I knew who would!
Have you heard of The Kitchen in Croxley Green? Well, if you are anywhere close, you should as they make the best cakes and that’s not all.
This local business is run by Linda, who is the nicest lady you can imagine. When I got in touch and explained what we were after. She said she had never made a cake like that, but also that she liked a good old challenge and that she would make it for Olivia!
After sending her a few images of what Olivia exactly had in mind, I could see she was a bit worried, but you know what? She needn’t be as the pug cake I picked up on the of Olivia’s birthday party looked just incredible! Would you agree?
Not only the cake looked like a real pug, which is definitely not an easy thing to do, it also tasted great! We did have a dilemma if to cut the cake as it was like a piece of art, but at the end of the day, it was Olivia’s birthday cake and she wanted to share it with her friends.
Olivia loved her cake and said it was the best cake she has ever seen! Her big sister Isabelle was very impressed too!
The Kitchen is well-known not only for all the delicious cakes but also for its very popular baking parties and afternoon teas. I am so pleased we have such a lovely cafe close by and cannot wait for some more cakes from Linda and her team!
Disclosure: Linda has kindly provided the Pug cake for free in return for my honest review on this blog and social media platforms. My views are honest and by no means sweetened by the cake!
