Snufflebabe vapour rub – the natural choice to ease symptoms

Colds and congestion are tough enough for adults, but for babies and toddlers they can bring extreme discomfort, unrelenting crying and sleepless nights. Very young children have no way of clearing their blocked and stuffy noses – and now a new study has revealed how difficult the problem is for both little ones and parents alike.

New research, conducted on behalf of the child congestion experts at Snufflebabe, reveals the physical problems that blocked up noses can lead to, as well as the lengths that mums and dads will go to in an attempt to help their child.

Children typically suffer as many as seven to 10 colds a year – compared to two to four for an adult. Such upper respiratory tract infections can be particularly disruptive for babies who are being breast-or bottle-fed, as a blocked-up nose and congestion makes it hard to suck and swallow.

In a bid to find out more about the issue, Snufflebabe commissioned researchers to interview 1,000 mothers of children aged five or under from across the UK.

More than half (54%) of respondents said their babies had suffered from a stuffy nose or congestion with nine out of 10 (88%) saying this had happened once or more in the last six months.

Parents thought that the worst things about a baby’s stuffy nose were:
• not being able to breathe freely (75%)
• waking frequently from sleep (60%)
• stuffy breathing (50%)
• a runny nose (42%)
• being unable to sleep (42%)
• sore skin around the nostrils (24%)
• catarrh or thick congestion (20%)
• a dry mouth (6%).

Parents also said that the congestion could trigger problems such as asthma, vomiting, coughing, feeding problems, a loss of appetite and sore cheeks.

Snufflebabe

Snufflebabe is a tried and trusted paediatric decongestant rub for babies and children aged from three months. Inclusive of natural ingredients, Snufflebabe offers a safe and mild yet highly effective solution for easing the distressing nasal congestion caused by colds and coughs. It is a reliable solution trusted by millions of parents, thanks to its simple yet highly effective combination of menthol, eucalyptus oil and thyme oil. Working together in a mild ointment, these natural ingredients provide a decongestant remedy for babies as young as three months old, with the added benefits of antiviral and antibacterial properties.

These natural ingredients are carried in an excipient, an inactive carrier, resulting in a rub that is gentle-smelling and not overpowering, making it perfect for babies and small children. Just a small amount is needed to be rubbed on – this evaporates and is inhaled, relieving congestion and making it easier to breathe.

Its mild formulation makes Snufflebabe suitable for application directly on to a child’s or baby’s chest or throat. However, it should not be applied directly to the nostrils or area around the nose – the skin here tends to be very tender, especially if the child has a cold. Alternatively, Snufflebabe can be applied to a tissue or handkerchief that is tied out of reach to a baby’s cot.

Snufflebabe is available from pharmacies and supermarkets. RRP £2.54 for 24g.

The active ingredients of Snufflebabe are: eucalyptus oil (2.00%ww), menthol (1.50%ww) and thyme oil (0.50%ww). Snufflebabe should not be used on babies aged less than three months without advice from a GP or pharmacist. Reactions to any of the ingredients are rare, but stop use if the child develops a skin rash and seek advice from a GP or pharmacist if the rash then does not disappear.
