This Xmas we are spending with my family and friends in the Czech Republic. We all are very excited, especially the girls. I know it’s going to be very emotional too as this is going to be the first Christmas back home since my dad passed away a few years ago.
Both my parents were amazing when I was growing up, and I honestly do not think I could have ever wished for a better childhood. When I gave birth to Isabelle (who is by the way nearly 11 years old now), they spent a few weeks with me here in London to help me with my newborn and also to enjoy their grandchild.
Watching them all together gave me a great pleasure. Seeing all the love, pride, joy and happiness felt just incredible. Since then we spent every summer with them in the Czech Republic, as I wanted to make sure they catch up on all the lovely things good grandparents do with their grandchildren.
My little one adored her granddad and grandma from a very young age. They made her laugh and did anything she wanted them to do. They spoiled her, but also taught her many things grandparents do and she has always known they loved her so much and that she was the one they were most excited about spending time with.
Olivia had only a few months of experience all this, but we all are grateful for these. My mum is the strongest person and watching her dealing with the worst loss in her and our lives was not easy. I know that thanks to the love for my two daughters she managed to deal with the pain and started thinking positive again.
One thing I have always admired about my parents was how they always put their children first, and later their grandchildren too. One of these things is undoubtedly thinking about their future and helping them financially. Did you know that you can save for the future of your grandchildren tax efficiently, in a Young Savers Plan?
I believe that grandparents are here to love their grandchildren and make them laugh. I also think they should help with developing my children’s personalities by sharing their knowledge and tips.
My girls love spending their time with my mum and learning many things about plants in her garden. They have also helped many times with cooking some yummy Czech meals. Learning more about Czech culture from her is so important to me.
Talking about grandparents, I love this step-by-step guide on how to be a cool grandparent. Hopefully one day I am going to be such a great grandparent to my daughters’ children. Not sure if I will be a cool one, but I will definitely try my best.
